PROJECT
Design & Build CAT B
15,000 sq. ft

LOCATION
Vintners Place, City of London, EC4V 3BJ

Re-locating to the prestigious Vintners Place Building, our client required a Design & Build partner to create a Cat B space that captured the businesses vision. Bringing together teams from across the Rakuten Group, including Rakuten Advertising, Rakuten TV, Rakuten Insight, Rakuten Europe, Rakuten Symphony, ShopStyle and Viber, the new office at Vintners Place serves as a hub for Rakuten UK operations.

The key brief was to ensure a functional, yet high tech space was achieved to house 7 different teams, whilst creating flexible and agile workplace solutions throughout the space.

This has been achieved throughout with a flexible open plan space, sound rated pods, perimeter touch down offices, large breakout space, yoga studio and games room.

In keeping with the corporate nature of the business an impressive reception, boardroom and informal client space have been created, which provides a striking first impression upon entering the space.

DESIGN CHALLENGE
When Rakuten moved into the space previously occupied by another tenant, they were looking to make very selective choices to transform the space – a much need refresh and some modification to the current layout to better suit their business requirements and branding.

KEY FEATURES
We created an entirely new look and feel for their reception area, starting with a reclad of the existing reception desk and incorporating their logo on the wall. To bring newfound energy to the space, a vibrant, eye-catching splash of Rakuten red was added as carpet inlay. Not only that, but we also created a client facing meeting area where they could lounge and hotdesk.

We also incorporated graphics to reflect Rakuten brand – from meeting room names inspired by iconic London parks to the Tardis quiet room and Marvel comic feature wall in the games room.

REDUCING THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

Sustainability was at the forefront of our minds during the office refurbishment and we worked diligently to reduce the environmental impact as much as possible. Together we achieved the following:

  • Reused: We kept the office furniture that was in the best condition and had it restored. We reused over 140 items including tables, chairs, desks and sofas.
  • Recycled: Over 300 items were recycled sustainably. These items were broken down into component parts and recycled accordingly. The only component item that went to landfill was the foam from the chairs/seating. This is not currently recyclable.
  • Donated: We gave over 70 items a new home by donating them to NHS’s St George’s Hospital.

A sustainable future is something that matters greatly to us and Rakuten Advertising and we’re proud to have met the needs of our growing client’s business with minimal environmental impact.
